Last night's brilliant BBC programme '
Bees, Butterflies and Blooms' encapsulated everything that
Operation Pollinator is aiming to achieve. In fact, the farmer
involved, Duncan Farrington, was sowing Operation Pollinator seed
mix and following the project's establishment guidelines - only he
wasn't allowed to say the brand name on the BBC!
Those of you who have attended
Operation Pollinator training days, presentations, looked at the
website or read the
guides will have recognised much of the language and wording
used in the programme commentary follows that used around the
project.
The programme's producers have highlighted the issues facing the
plight of pollinators. It has also shown the potential for everyone
involved in land management - from city window box to huge landed
estates - to take positive action for pollinators.
Golf courses can play a major role in providing valuable
habitats for bumblebees and other pollinating insects on
out-of-play areas - initiatives that will enhance the
attractiveness and experience of playing in a vibrant, natural
environment, but does not impinge in any way on the management of
in-play areas for the best playing surfaces.
