Please note that the date for
Operation Pollinator Training Workshop in the south west, at
Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, has been moved from 1 July to
15 September 2011. The remaining workshops across
the country will continue as planned, starting at Marriot Worsley
Park Golf Club, Manchester on 28 July.
Syngenta Turf & Landscape Technical Manager, Dr Simon
Watson, explained that, after the exceptionally dry spring
conditions, starting the training at the end of July will ensure
greenkeepers and turf managers can put the practical techniques
learned straight into practice for the autumn establishment of
Operation Pollinator habitat on out of play rough.
Dr Watson highlighted that ecological habitat management offers
an exciting opportunity to enhance the attraction of golf courses
to both players and natural biodiversity. This summer greenkeepers
and course managers will have the great chance for free training
and advice on how to get the best results on their course, with a
nationwide series of practical Operation
Pollinator workshops.
Organised by Syngenta, the training will be provided by STRI
Head of Ecology and Environment, Bob Taylor. The seven workshops
across England and Scotland will all take place on golf courses,
enabling the valuable advice to be backed up with practical
demonstrations and examples of how to successfully establish and
manage wildflower habitats for the benefit of bumblebees and other
pollinating insects.
